Dr. Hassan Osanlou; Dean of Architecture Faculty, Tehran Soreh University

The professional experiences of Osanlou since 1989 include his brilliant presence in Brunei Falou architectural firm (Italy-Milan), Claudio Diane studio (Italy- Milan) and Amayesh Sarzamin studio (Tehran-Iran). He also continues his teaching in Iran in bachelor and master degree in Azad University, Imam Hussein University, Ministry of Islamic Culture and Guidance, Tehran Soreh University. He also does his duty as a chief of international relations at Tehran Soreh University, and continues his effective architectural presence.
Dr. Osanlou is popular for his frankness; when we talk with him, he speaks heartily and demonstrates determination and truthfulness in his speech .Like a master, he humility dose not think about any thing except helping others. When assimilate his experiences truly, the result is a hope for future and confidence in his successful goals…under the pretext of "ARUNA" discussions with educational managers, we discussed with him and once more learnt lots of thing…

Mr.Dr. Osanlou, you as the dean of the faculty has passed successfully last overburden term in architecture program at Soreh School. How do you evaluate the activities of last term?
Dr.Osanlou- Last term was not neither a good term nor bad one, in fact it was my first term having responsibility as the head of architecture school and setting new techniques takes time. Of course, we had good alterations as well, I would like to appreciate from our good professors; for example, one of our alterations was in Contemporary Architecture course by the superior effort of one of the best professors called Mr. Bahram Hooshiar Yousefi, with completely investigative method, we had creativity for this class. At present, we have a comprehensive archive and appreciate his efforts; the other alteration occurred in Architectural Design course by the effort of Dr. Prof. Afshar, Dr. Prof. Pourmand and Dr. Prof. Mehrabani. In other universities for Architectural Design course, professors and students start drawing line haphazardly, but in this term the professors of Architectural Design considered more to the quality of the projects than just drawing lines…, a design is real when pass behind literature. According to this base, our professors tried to consider design regarding other arts, such as literature, cinema…, not only mechanical discussion that means drawing line, which causes the professor predict the end of the work from the beginning; therefore the issue of effect and cause will come under discussion, because the most people consider effect, while in architectural conversations the cause is the most important one. Unfortunately, in educational cases, we see effect in place of cause, and for this reason professors of Soreh University tried to regard as literature besides architectural design. For example, for Architectural Design 1 in last term, the selected subject for the project was "Art Bazaar"; therefore, for about six sessions the emphasis was on the meaning of the art; for this reason, by recognizing approximately about the art, students became able to design an art bazaar; in traditional discussions about an art bazaar the students consider more about manual industries and pottery, while today in modern discussions of the universities, cinema, theater, graphic…are somehow a definition for an art bazaar.

What kinds of anticipations you have provided for the activities of next term?
Dr.Osanlou- the newest program for next term in architecture school at Soreh University is adding a new program as interior design; which 30-60 students will attend to this program.

…and how do these students get admissions for this program? (In bachelor degree or master?)
Dr.Osanlou-students will get admissions through national exam (Konkour)in bachelor degree. We have to consider that the major of interior design is a modern one, not only in Iran but also out of Iran.

You mean Soreh University is the first university in Iran for interior architecture program in bachelor degree?
Dr.Osanlou-yes, it is a new step in this way.

What are the differences in case of job opportunities in future for architectural major and this new program- interior design?
Dr.Osanlou-there are some issues, we are going to consider about; for example, about this matter that ,if graduated students in interior design become the member of engineering organization or not; how will be the job opportunities in future? And what are the parameters for this career? Cinema, theater, history.., can be included in interior design career; for example, a film composed for the era of Achaemenian; it is necessary to know about the history of Achaemenian to design as an interior designer. The interior of a building is not just to install curtains or set table and chairs, interior design is a two-sided corporation between architect and sculptor. An architect design a model for the building and then it is an interior designer duty to organize and create a special content for the building.

While Soreh University is the first University accepting students for interior design major, the syllabus and discussions will be new. Which professors will corporate to teach this program at Sore University?
Dr.Osanlou-it is true. The syllabuses are going to be new, but we will employ the experiences of Milan Polytechnic University in Interior design program, %70 of courses is parallel with architecture major. Some of the professors have been selected from last term and prepared to teach courses. While in the first term most of the courses are general; therefore professors will have enough time to prepare themselves and we appreciate Mr.Dr. Roshan a lot.

What kinds of supports have been presented – regarding last term progressions- from Sore University to architecture school?
Dr.Osanlou-since the management of University has been turned over to Mr. Dr. Roshan; in case of material and spiritual facilities, we had a revolution and in case of software and hardware possibilities. It was a time we had problems in lack of computers, but now we have extra ones! Also, Mr. Dr. Roshan promises us to develop the facilities of library and Soreh University's students can take advantageous of fine art library at Tehran University, as well.

After two-sided agreement in March of this year; what kinds of activities are going to be developed?
Dr.Osanlou-most of the activities depend on students, while they request to continue their education out of the country, we will help them. At present Soreh university has relations with Italy embassy and Italian architecture school. We can provide %40 discounts for their education expenses and also students can apply for Milan Polytechnic School, San Peter's Rome and Also school of Frederic the second in Naples. Sore University was the host of some Italian guests – Pier Paolo Colza, Guise Lichardi, Roberto Toskano and Bruno Gebito; and held some speech sessions.

Dr. osanlou do you have considered some changes to create alterations in educational system?
Dr.Osanlou-probably we cannot create a large alteration; but we shift a lot. Kandineski believes that sometimes with one shift one person will change, but if he passes away he cannot move him even with thousands shifts. Education is similar to this matter, it means in short time we cannot create a special change but it is more comprehensible in long time.
